Pool Shock Calculator
How Pool Shock Calculator Works
This calculator determines the amount of pool shock needed to raise your chlorine to the target level for effective sanitization.
Formula Used:
Shock Amount = (Pool Volume x PPM Increase x 8.33) / (% Available Chlorine x 100)
When to Shock Your Pool:
- • Weekly maintenance shocking
- • After heavy pool usage
- • Following algae treatment
- • When chloramines are detected
- • After rainstorms
Shock Levels:
- • Maintenance: 3-5 ppm
- • Standard shock: 10 ppm
- • Algae treatment: 20-30 ppm
Safety Guidelines:
- • Add shock at sunset/evening
- • Never swim during shocking
- • Wait for chlorine to drop below 3 ppm
- • Run pump for 8+ hours after shocking
- • Never mix different shock types
Available Chlorine Percentages:
- • Cal-Hypo: 70%
- • Liquid Chlorine: 12.5%
- • Lithium Hypo: 35%
