Muriatic Acid Pool Calculator
How Muriatic Acid Calculator Works
This calculator determines how much muriatic acid to add to lower your pool's pH to the optimal level.
Dosing Formula:
Acid Needed = (pH Reduction / 0.2) x 1.5 fl oz per 10,000 gallons
Optimal pH Range:
- • Ideal pH: 7.2 - 7.6
- • Target pH: 7.4 (optimal)
- • Maximum pH: 7.8
- • Minimum pH: 7.0
Safety Precautions:
- • Always add acid to water, never water to acid
- • Wear safety goggles and gloves
- • Pour slowly into deep end with pump running
- • Never add more than 1 quart per 10,000 gallons at once
- • Wait 6-8 hours before retesting pH
Application Tips:
- • Dilute acid in a bucket of pool water first
- • Pour near return jets for better circulation
- • Test pH after 6-8 hours of circulation
- • Make gradual adjustments over several days
Common Concentrations:
- • Standard: 31.45% (20° Baumé)
- • Diluted: 15-20%
- • Pool stores typically sell 31.45%
