Pool Salt Calculator

Typical range: 3000-3500 ppm

How Pool Salt Calculator Works

This calculator determines how much salt to add to your saltwater pool to achieve the optimal salinity level.

Formula Used:

Salt Needed (lbs) = [(Target ppm - Current ppm) x Pool Volume x 8.33] / 1,000,000 x 120

Optimal Salt Levels:

  • • Standard pools: 3,000-3,500 ppm
  • • Most salt generators: 3,200 ppm (ideal)
  • • Maximum safe level: 4,000 ppm

Important Notes:

  • • Use pure pool salt (sodium chloride)
  • • Add salt gradually over 24-48 hours
  • • Test salt levels after each addition
  • • Run pump for 24 hours to circulate
  • • Salt doesn't evaporate - only water does

Safety Tips:

  • • Never add salt while people are swimming
  • • Dissolve salt in bucket before adding
  • • Brush pool bottom to prevent staining
