How to Calculate Landscape Rock Requirements
This calculator helps you determine the amount of landscape rock needed for your project.
Formula Used:
Volume = Length x Width x Depth
Cubic Yards = Cubic Feet / 27
Weight = Cubic Yards x Density
Rock Types:
- River Rock: Smooth, rounded stones ($40-50 per cubic yard)
- Lava Rock: Porous volcanic rock, lightweight ($30-40 per cubic yard)
- Limestone: Crushed limestone in various sizes ($35-45 per cubic yard)
- Granite: Hard, durable stone in various colors ($45-55 per cubic yard)
- Pea Gravel: Small rounded stones for drainage ($30-40 per cubic yard)
- Crushed Stone: Angular crushed stone for bases ($25-35 per cubic yard)
Recommended Depths:
- Decorative Cover: 2-3 inches
- Weed Barrier: 3-4 inches
- Drainage Layer: 4-6 inches
- Pathways: 2-4 inches
- Retaining Walls: As needed for backfill
